Basketball (popularly known as basketball) came in 1891, the United States.
Its creator was James Naismith, a physical education teacher of the YMCA of Springfield (Massachusetts - USA).

First match in history
The first basketball game we know and registration was held on January 20,
1892. We formed two teams from the YMCA of Springfield. This game was built and was not seen by the public.
Only on March 11 of that year a departure could be handled by the general public outside of the Association.
 On this occasion,
students of the Association won the team of teachers by the score 5-1.
Approximately two hundred people attended the game.
Formalization of rules
For two years the games were only made in the Christian Association and the rules were limited to this site.
In 1894,
the Amateur Athletic Union professionals learned about the new sport and decided to formalize the rules.
In 1896, we performed the first women's basketball game.
On occasion, the students of Stanford University won the team from the University of California.
In the early years of basketball has not had a ball specifically for this sport.
The matches were held with a soccer ball. However, in 1894, the Chicope Falls,
Massachusetts company, developed the first basketball.
